2020 NFL Free Agency: LeSean McCoy Should Not Return To Possible Chiefs, Eagles Claimant

Aside from winning his very first Super Bowl, things didn’t go as planned for LeSean McCoy in 2019. After being unexpectedly released by the Buffalo Bills, the veteran who ran quickly ignored the other offers to find Andy Reid with the conviction that he would have a chance to regain his original form for his former coach. Instead, the end of the culminating team was married to an informal individual arrival for McCoy, who was found inactive and dressed for the Super Bowl LIV battle with the San Francisco 49ers – so that Reid and the chiefs can transport an additional lineman.

McCoy ended the 2019 season with a career low in rushing attempts (101), rushing yards (465), rushing attempts per game (7.8), rushing yards per game (35, 8), the reception of targets (34) and the receptions (28) – – far from what one would qualify as a resurgent campaign. That will not be enough for a six-time bowling player who wants to be on the field and, to that end, he should not return to the Chiefs in 2020, by Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.

McCoy signed a one-year deal with the Chiefs in 2019 worth $ 3 million, and the decision to move on puts him on the market just before the start of free agency on March 16.

The 31-year-old may still have a tread on his tires, and there is a team or three who will likely be looking to land the double All-Pro and investigate if it is – hoping it always has the speed to provide a complement to someone’s power stroke attack. His upcoming deal will be reasonable no matter who he signs with, and rumors are already circulating that could be a potential reunion underway with the Philadelphia Eagles. McCoy is a former Eagles pick in the second round and established himself as one of the best football backers during his tenure with the club, but tension with head coach Chip Kelly led to an exchange that sent to the Bills in 2015.

Even during his time in Buffalo, there were persistent rumors that the Eagles could reach an agreement to return McCoy home via trade – after the late Kelly era in Philadelphia – but nothing ever materialized. Now that he’s a free agent, meeting with an Eagles team he never really wanted to leave and who needs help in the backfield makes sense.

But time will tell if this happens.
