The atrocities that the year 2020 has brought cannot be seen through the traditional lens. It has hit all businesses hard. The sports business was not immune and the NBA was no exception either.
The NBA was one of the first organizations to start operating after the pandemic brought matters to a halt. It was then predicted that fans would welcome the resurrection of the sport with open arms. However, the numbers reveal a very different and rather dark story.
2020 NBA TV ratings were far from good
NBA TV odds for the 2019-20 season obviously had the NBA Finals games in the Top Five. The star power of LeBron James must have helped the cause. Kevin Durant, who played with the Golden State Warriors until last year, had previously expressed an opinion on this matter. He was convinced that the obsession with statistics was the main reason for the drop in grades. KD blamed the sports writers for being obsessed with the analytical side of the game, rather than covering up the game as such. This could undoubtedly have led to the emergence of the “flagship culture”. Fans would like to see aggregate stats on investing in a 48 minute game that lasts around two hours.

Ratings hit a new low, possibly due to many other factors
When the sports of football, basketball, tennis, etc. resumed, there was a general consensus that people might not get along in the midst of the pandemic. Furthermore, the political scenario did not paint a very good picture either.
That said, a reason may also be that the “ favorites ” didn’t get any further into the playoffs when it comes to the NBA. Popular teams like the GSW were not invited to the bubble. Adding salt to the wound, franchises like LA Clippers, Milwaukee Bucks and Raptors have failed to make their mark.
