1987 Toyota Dolphin custom motorhome attracts attention and will be auctioned

When you think of pickup-based motorhomes, there is a definite shape and form that comes to mind. That’s especially if you’re talking about three to four decades old.

But this custom motorhome found on the list Cars and Auctions is a little different. Decorated with a custom finished metal and wood exterior, this motorhome was a 1987Dolphin compact motorhome based on the Toyota Hilux pickup truck. And yes, it is currently up for auction with a handful of people very interested in bringing home this original machine.

Complete with stained glass and wood trim, this Dolphin motorhome has the vibe of an old-fashioned train caboose from two centuries ago. It certainly deserves attention, but you would be happy to know that this motorhome is not quite visible.

Under the hood, the custom camper is powered by a 2.4-liter Toyota 22R-E inline-four engine, producing 113 horsepower (84 kilowatts) and 140 pound-feet (190 Newton-meters) of torque. It was rebuilt in 2021, which means it’s relatively fresh right now.

Inside, it comes with a custom wood interior finish, convertible sofa, bed in the cabin, three-burner stove, refrigerator, sink, fresh water tank, custom light fixtures and a 100 Ah battery.

This custom Dolphin motorhome is not without its flaws, however. It has scratches around the exterior, as well as a number of rust spots already visible on the white paint finish. There are wood stains on the hood and doors, while some cabin interior trim is already separating from the frame.

As of this writing, this oddly interesting motorhome has already garnered 10 offers at Cars and Auctions, with the highest bid at $8,888. There are three days left until the hammer falls on it, so you might want to decide quickly if you’re really interested in bringing this home.
