TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Authorities are looking for three people who may have information about a fatal shooting at the DeSoto County Fairgrounds Saturday night.
The Arcadia Police Department said investigators want to speak to two men and a young woman who appeared in a social media video.
“We are aware that a video has been circulating on social media, and many of you have already seen it,” Arcadia Police wrote in a Facebook post on Sunday. “We are looking for the person who originally recorded this video and would like to speak to him.”
The subjects were described as “a young Hispanic female wearing a black jacket and light-colored jeans, a male subject wearing a light shirt and shorts, and an adult male standing in the back who appears to have a beard.”
The video was taken shortly after gunshots rang out on the second night of the DeSoto County Fair.
The DeSoto County Fair Association confirmed that a 17-year-old was killed in a statement also shared by the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office. NBC affiliate WBBH also confirmed the victim’s identity as a 17-year-old boy.
“The DeSoto County Fair Association wishes first and foremost to extend its deepest condolences to the family of the young man who lost his life last night,” the association said.
On Saturday night, the sheriff’s office said at least one person was shot at the fair and the shooter remains at large.
“Our men and women from the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office and the Arcadia Police Department responded with great determination after last night’s incident to provide assistance and assist the public,” he said. said Sunday in its own statement. “The DCSO and APD followed the leads until the wee hours of the morning.”
In response to the teen’s death, the DeSoto County Fair Association closed midway through Sunday, but allowed the Cattle Grooming Pageant and the Jr. Miss DeSoto Pageant to continue into the afternoon with a increased security.
“These areas will also be heavily patrolled by local law enforcement to ensure the safety of everyone involved,” the association said.
Little Miss (7-9) and Princess (10-13) division pageants will be rescheduled.
