15 Tulle Skirts to Add to Your Wardrobe This Spring – Who What Wear

If there’s one trend that’s been sneakily taking over the fashion scene lately, it’s the tulle skirt. What started as a whimsical addition to runway collections, with designers like Molly Goddard leading the way, has now infiltrated the streets and the wardrobes of fashion people around the world. From the sidewalks of New York to the boutiques of Paris and even spotted on some of Who What Wear UK’s favorite stylish celebrities, tulle skirts are making a splash, proving they’re no longer just for ballerinas.

Last year, Jennifer Lawrence turned heads when she stepped out in a tulle skirt paired with a fitted black blazer – a bold way to add some oomph to this “feminine” piece. And at Paris Fashion Week in February, the entire fashion set was seen twirling in tulle skirts of all lengths and colors, although black and white iterations seemed to be the favorite. Whether you’re sipping champagne at a gallery opening or attending an outdoor summer soiree, a tulle skirt is the perfect choice for making an elegant entrance, and the options are endless.

It’s not just tulle, but also sequins, ruffles and applied flowers galore. While offerings from Simone Rocha, Victoria Beckham and Anthropologie seem classically “spring” with a pastel and nude palette, others are more gothic, coming in darker and even metallic tones. Noir Kei Ninomiya’s version (see below) is a bold and directional option for those who don’t like “pretty.”

But how to wear a tulle skirt? If you’re looking to dress yours up, a silk camisole and heels seem timeless and elevated (and a little Carrie Bradshaw, right?), but if you want to make this typically “girly” piece a little rougher around the edges, try Wear it with a graphic tee and sneakers. You can even wear a blazer over your shoulders to easily wear the outfit from day to night.
