Rihanna has always been a fashion girl. In fact, I can barely remember a time when even her most understated outfits (ex: this Target running look) weren’t celebrated and copied ten times over. But if I had to draw a line in fashion history, I’d say 2014 was its most defining sartorial year.
In June 2014, Rihanna received the Fashion Icon of the Year award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America. Presented by Anna Wintour, it is one of the most prestigious honors a style star can receive.
A few months later, she attended another distinguished fashion event. This time, She It was she who presented the highest award, fully consolidating her place among the fashion elite. Naturally, she wore a dress worthy of the occasion, and she entered her style hall of fame.
Rihanna’s daring bedazzled dress
On October 29, 2024, Rihanna attended the amfAR LA Inspiration Gala with the gargantuan task of presenting Tom Ford with the top award of the evening. Fittingly, she wore a dress by the designer that made headlines (and still does, clearly). For the occasion, he dressed Rihanna in a look that was part lingerie, part dress, and 100% slay.
She wore a flowing white dress adorned with the most shocking details. The top was basically a bra – except for a handful of rhinestones and a few metallic purple flowers, it was completely see-through. In addition to several cutouts, her look also included a thigh-high slit that showed off her sheer black stockings.
Meanwhile, in the back, the dress is completely open – playing on the bra aesthetic. She accessorized with a wispy choker and a few diamond earrings.
Also note: its tangerine glamor
In the 2010s, Rihanna made orange her signature color. She rocked the bright, bold lip shade and kept the rest of her color palette neutral. She wore her hair in a sleek, low ponytail, allowing her scarf and jewelry to stand out.
During her introduction, she joked, “We honor [Ford] for his creative genius, leadership, integrity and generosity. We honor him for doing good while making us look good. And she looked good.
